Tea With Emma

Can you tell us about yourself please?
I am 37 years old, born and raised in Cornwall in the South West of the UK to Yorkshire-born parents. I have one sister who is now an NZ Resident and encouraged me to apply for my 3-year working holiday visa. And here I am! I am blessed with two nephews and a little niece who keep me happy, entertained, and busy while living here.
Before joining Webster’s Tea, you worked on superyachts. What was that experience like?
I was fortunate enough to work on superyachts for 10 years before arriving in NZ, which was an incredibly valuable experience. Having the opportunity to travel to various countries and immerse myself in different cultures is something I will always appreciate.
What’s the biggest lesson you learned from working with people all over the world?
Working with people from all over the globe teaches you so much about yourself and others; variety really is the spice of life!
Now at Webster’s, you wear so many hats! What’s a typical day in your role like?
My typical day at Webster’s begins with popping on the kettle for my morning brew, of course. While I wait, I open up the shop, make sure our shelves are stocked with a variety of our tea, and prepare our chosen sample of the day. Then, I pack up and ship out our online and wholesale orders to tea lovers across New Zealand and Australia, including writing the handwritten notes we place in every order.
How do you usually enjoy your tea? Do you have a favourite time or ritual?
I love having a cup of tea first thing in the morning. Peppermint tea is my favourite when I wake up - I always feel refreshed and ready for the day after that.
For someone new to Webster’s Tea, what would you suggest they try first?
My go-to recommendation is our Earl Grey. It’s fragrant, smooth, and perfect for biscuit dunking. This is always my suggestion for anyone asking for black tea because it’s unlike any other Earl Grey I’ve tasted.
Lastly, if you could have a cup of tea with anyone, past or present, who would it be?
It would most definitely be my mum. She’s in the UK, and I miss her beautiful face every day.
Thanks, Emma!
