Tea With Sarah and Jesse

Tea With Sarah and Jesse

I first met Jesse at uni in Dunedin, where he was already showing serious talent in the kitchen. These days, he and his wife Sarah run No Biggie—a wedding and event catering business dishing up bold, seasonal food with a whole lot of heart.

We caught up to chat about how it all started, juggling business and young kids, and what keeps them inspired.

Can you please tell the readers a bit about yourselves and how No Biggie came to life?

We’re Jesse and Sarah, the duo behind No Biggie - a wedding and event catering business, serving up damn fine seasonal food with a side of good vibes.

Jesse’s a Bay of Plenty native, raised in the lush foothills of the Kaimai Ranges. Sarah hails from Cowell, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it country town in South Australia. And how did our paths cross? In true Aussie and Kiwi fashion: a snow season in Banff, Canada. Yep, nothing like frostbite and après-ski beers to spark a love story.

No Biggie was born after a stint living in France, we came back to Tauranga with dreams of opening a tiny wine bar. But the perfect spot just never showed up. Then some mates asked us to cater their wedding and we thought, “Sure, let’s give it a crack.”

One wedding turned into another... and another. Before we knew it, the wine bar dream had shape shifted into something even better.

And I'm so glad! No Biggie has such a fun, fresh and flavour-packed approach to catering. What do you think sets your food apart from the rest?

No Biggie was born out of a love for good food, good people, and the magic that happens when the two come together. We’re all about seasonal produce, big flavours, and food that feels like a big, warm and delicious hug - but looks like it belongs on the cover of a fancy magazine.

Running a small business is no small feat. What's been one of your proudest or most memorable No Biggie moments so far?

We’ve been in the catering game for nearly 8 years now, packed with unforgettable moments. One standout? Catering for the Eastern Bay of Plenty Business Awards last year, serving up a feast for 380 guests—that was a huge milestone for us. And let’s not forget about the recipe videos we whipped up during lockdown. Who could resist watching Jesse show the world how to make the perfect focaccia?

But honestly, the best part of it all is the chance to work together. Building something that not only supports our family but lets us be present for our kids every day. That’s the real win.

Jesse and I have known each other for nearly 20 years now, and our families have grown close too. Sarah, what's your experience of raising a family while running your own business like?

We absolutely adore our little Webster crew - and honestly, we can’t imagine doing this whole parenting gig without you legends by our side. Running a business while raising tiny humans? It’s basically like juggling 99 caffeinated raccoons. Chaos with a capital C.

But here’s the thing: we’ve deliberately built our business to give us the one thing you can’t buy time with our kids, especially in these magical early years. Summers are a whirlwind, but winter? That’s our slow-down, snuggle-up season. We hit pause, take a proper breather, and head off on family adventures to refill the tank.

You've been known to sneak a cup of Webster's into your day - do you have any favourites?

I'm all about chamomile before bed, while Jesse can’t resist a good peppermint. We’re pretty diplomatic about it, every night after the kids are in bed, we alternate our brews like a well-oiled tea machine.

Lastly, here's one we love asking - if you could share a cup of tea with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?

This is an easy one, we'd love to share another cup of Webster's Tea with Jesse's Mum, Vee. She loved an Earl Grey and made her famous kombucha with your luscious Sencha tea leaves xx

Thank you both!
